Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite e-Reader Is a Smashing Success

Amazon‘s (NASDAQ:AMZN) latest e-reader, the Kindle Paperwhite, is receiving glowing praise across the technology world for keeping readability in mind.

Amazon began shipping the new e-reader Monday and is already sold out into November. The vast majority of those reviewing the newest Kindle have been positive, reports The Christian Science Monitor. However, minor complaints include a lack of speakers and headphone jack.

Still, the new Kindle has many new features, including the enhanced back-lit LED screen. Other new upgrades include six installed fonts, an eight-week battery life, parental controls and the ability for users to make notes and highlights. The Paperwhite holds up to 1,100 books, comes in both Wi-Fi and 3G/Wi-Fi models, and also includes functionality that allows the user to share passages directly to Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) and Twitter.

Unlike the earlier Kindle Fire, the Paperwhite is not designed to compete with Apple‘s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad. The Paperwhite is strictly an e-reader.
