Giant Honda Recall Will Last Into Next Year

Honda out of required part; hoses won't be available until 2013

Giant Honda Recall Will Last Into Next Year

Automaker Honda (NYSE:HMC) is facing a double whammy. Already facing a public relations and cash hit for its recall of more than 600,000 2003-07 Accords and 2007-08 Acuras, the manufacturer is seeing its recall delayed by a lack of available parts to correct the problem.

The recall centers on a potential issue with the power steering hose, which may deteriorate and leak fluid. The problem may cause a loss of control or result in smoke and fire, reports the Los Angeles Times. No crashes or injuries are currently linked to the problem, though there has been one engine fire.

The new hoses for the cars will not be available, however, until sometime in 2013. The hoses are out of stock because of the age of the vehicles involved. Production will commence shortly, and owners may take their vehicles in for an interim repair if they wish.

The problem is only found on the 6-cylinder models. Cars with 4 cylinders are not included.
