In Northern Cambria, Penn., Jeffrey McMullen tried something no one expected. He attempted to rob his local bank … for one dollar.
McMullen, age 50, is a regular customer of the AmeriServ (NASDAQ:ASRV[1]) branch, reports the Associated Press[2]. So it caught tellers by surprise when McMullen handed two of them notes stating that he was robbing the bank and they should give him a dollar.
When the tellers took it for a joke, McMullen went to the new accounts employee and repeated his demand for a dollar.
Another note indicated that McMullen desired federal prosecution and FBI custody. Police have not said why he wished to be imprisoned. McMullen awaits a court-ordered mental evaluation prior to posting bail.
