[1]It may be tough for women to move up[2] in the corporate and finance worlds, but that doesn’t mean they can’t do it. While some are opting out of the status quo by flocking to start-ups[3], many are instead plowing right throw the glass ceiling and taking the reins at big name companies and banks.

A few months ago, for example, we recapped Forbes’ annual list of the most powerful women in the world[4], highlighting CEOs like Yahoo‘s (NASDAQ:YHOO[5]) Marissa Mayer[6], Hewlett-Packard‘s (NYSE:HPQ[7]) Meg Whitman[8] and even Facebook (NASDAQ:FB[9]) COO Sheryl Sandberg. Heck, Mayer even took the corner office while pregnant with her first child, which she just gave birth to.

Now, though, we’ll get a little more specific with our parade of power. American Banker recently released a list of the 25 most powerful women in banking[10], featuring prominent females at banks like HSBC (NYSE:HBC[11]), Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC[12]), Bank of America (NYSE:BAC[13]), Citigroup (NYSE:C[14]) and U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB[15]).

Here’s a quick look at the top ten females in finance:

  1. Irene Dorner: CEO, HSBC USA
  2. Beth Mooney: CEO, Keycorp
  3. Karen Peetz: CEO For Financial Markets And Treasury Services, BNY Mellon
