Legions of bloggers worldwide found themselves unable to post updates this morning after Tumblr, the blogging platform, experienced an outage[1].
The problem began before 7:30 a.m. ET and the service, which hosts more than 77 million blogs, was still down as of 11:00 a.m. ET, CNN noted.
Tumblr is ranked as the 36th-most visited website. For U.S.-based Web-surfers, it’s the 19-most visited, according to Alexa.
Naturally, Tumblr took to Twitter to say that it was aware of the problem and looking for a solution. The outage was attributed to unspecified difficulties with one of Tumblr’s uplink providers.
Users also vented on Twitter as the hours passed without the blogging service returning to action. Though a small number said they had been able to link to Tumblr without encountering snags.
Privately held Tumblr is one of the leading social media services along with Google‘s (NASDAQ:GOOG[2]) YouTube, Twitter and Facebook (NASDAQ:FB[3]).
