26 Companies Increasing Dividends

Companies Increasing Dividends[1]Amid the presidential election and a bit of a rout in the stock market, a robust number of companies still were able to take care of shareholders by increasing their payouts.

Included in the list are a number of REITs, a telecom giant and the nation’s No. 2 burger chain … not to mention three InvestorPlace Dependable Dividend Stocks[2].

In all, 26 companies made it into the Companies Increasing Dividends[3] list. (Note: All new yields are as of Nov. 9 midday prices.)

Lease-to-own retailer Aaron’s (NYSE:AAN[4]) raised its quarterly dividend 13.3% to 17 cents per share, payable Jan. 4, 2013, to shareholders of record as of the close of business on Dec. 3, 2012.

Natural gas distributor and storage firm Atmos Energy (NYSE:ATO[5]) raised its quarterly dividend 3% to 35 cents per share, payable Dec. 10 to shareholders of record on Nov. 26. Atmos Energy has increased dividends in 25 straight years and is a Dependable Dividend Stock[6].
ATO Dividend Yield: 4.01%

Telecommunications and services giant AT&T (NYSE:T[7]), another Dependable Dividend Stock[6], raised its quarterly dividend 2.3% to 45 cents per share, payable Feb. 1, 2013, to shareholders of record Jan. 8, 2013. The hike represents the company’s 29th consecutive yearly dividend increase.

Bank holding company Bank Mutual (NASDAQ:BKMU[8]) doubled its quarterly commercial to 2 cents per share, payable Nov. 30 to shareholders of record on Nov. 16.

Outsourcing and management consulting firm Barrett Business (NASDAQ:BBSI[9]) increased its quarterly dividend 18% to 13 cents per share, payable Dec. 14 to shareholders of record as of Nov. 30.

Real estate investment trust Boston Properties (NYSE:BXP[10]) raised its quarterly dividend 18% to 65 cents per share, payable Jan. 29, 2013, to shareholders of record on Dec. 31, 2012.

Internet access and IP provider Cogent Communications (NASDAQ:CCOI[11]) raised its dividend 10% to 11 cents per share, payable Dec. 12 to shareholders of record on Nov. 21.
CCOI Dividend Yield:
2.09%

Natural gas producer and transportation company DCP Midstream Partners, LP (NYSE:DPM[12]) raised its quarterly distribution 1.5% to 68 cents per unit, payable Nov. 14 to unitholders of record at the close of business Nov. 7.
DPM Dividend Yield: 6.23%

Educational services company DeVry (NYSE:DV[13]) raised its annual dividend 13% to 34 cents per share. The dividend is payable on a semi-annual basis, with the next dividend payment of 17 cents per share made on Dec. 19 to common stockholders of record as of Nov. 30.
DV Dividend Yield: 1.2%

Software and e-commerce solutions provider Ebix (NASDAQ:EBIX[14]) raised its quarterly dividend 50% to 7.5 cents per share. The increase will take effect with the February 2013 dividend payment; the record date and payment date will be announced in February.

Engineering solutions and services provider Emerson Electric (NYSE:EMR[15]) raised its quarterly dividend 25% to 41 cents per share, payable Dec. 10 to stockholders of record on Nov. 16.

Self-managed REIT Extra Space Storage (NYSE:EXR[16]) raised its dividend 25% to 25 cents per share, payable Dec. 31 to stockholders of record at the close of business on Dec. 10.

Interactive multi-channel retailer HSN (NASDAQ:HSNI[17]) raised its quarterly dividend 44% to 18 cents per share, payable Dec. 19 to shareholders of record as of Dec. 5.

North American shopping center REIT Kimco Realty (NYSE:KIM[18]) raised its quarterly dividend 10.5% to 21 cents per share, payable Jan. 13, 2013, to shareholders of record on Jan. 2, 2013.

Diversified manufacturer Leggett & Platt (NYSE:LEG[19]), a Dependable Dividend Stock[6], increased its quarterly dividend 3.6% to 29 cents per share. No dates were announced, but this is the 41st straight annual increase in LEG’s dividend.

Insurance and retirement services holding company Lincoln Financial (NYSE:LNC[20]) raised its dividend 50% to 12 cents per share, payable Feb. 1, 2013, to shareholders of record at the close of business on Jan. 10, 2013.

Bermuda-based insurance holding company Maiden Holdings (NASDAQ:MHLD[21]) raised its quarterly dividend 12.5% to 9 cents per share, payable Jan. 15, 2013, to shareholders of record as of Jan. 2, 2013.

Test instruments manufacturer Mesa Labs (NASDAQ:MLAB[22]) raised its quarterly dividend 7.6% to 14 cents per share, payable Dec. 14, to shareholders of record on Nov. 30.

Copper, brass and aluminum products manufacturer Mueller Industries (NYSE:MLI[23]) increased its quarterly dividend 25% to 12.5 cents per share, payable Dec. 14, to shareholders of record on Dec. 3.

Natural gas firm Spectra Energy (NYSE:SE[24]) raised its dividend 8.9% to 30.5 cents per share, payable Dec. 10 to shareholders of record at the close of business on Nov. 12.

Science products producer Thermo Fisher Scientific (NYSE:TMO[25]) raised its quarterly dividend 15% to 15 cents per share, payable Jan. 15, 2013, to shareholders of record as of Dec. 17.

Global leaf tobacco producer Universal (NYSE:UVV[26]) increased its quarterly dividend 2% to 50 cents per share, payable Feb. 11, 2013, to common shareholders of record on Jan. 14, 2013.

Medical device maker Utah Medical (NASDAQ:UTMD[27]) raised its quarterly dividend 2% to 24.5 cents per share, payable Dec. 28 to shareholders of record at the close of business on Dec. 13.

Fast-food chain Wendy’s (NASDAQ:WEN[28]) doubled its quarterly dividend to 4 cents per share, payable Dec. 17 to shareholders of record as of Dec. 3.

Money movement and payment services company Western Union (NYSE:WU[29]) raised its quarterly dividend 25% to 12 cents per share, payable Dec. 31 to shareholders of record on Dec. 17.

Natural and 0rganic foods supermarket chain Whole Foods (NASDAQ:WFM[30]) raised its quarterly dividend 43% to 20 cents per share, payable on Jan. 29, 2013, to shareholders of record as of Jan. 18, 2013.
