4 Things to Know About Redbox’s New Streaming Video

[1]A new streaming video service carrying the Redbox name is close to launch.

Redbox Instant — a partnership between Verizon (NYSE:VZ[2]) and Coinstar (NASDAQ:CSTR[3]) — aims to compete directly with Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX[4]). While the companies are being very quiet about the development of Redbox Instant, some details have leaked out, reports GigaOm[5].

The service initially will be available on the web, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG[6]) Android and Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL[7]) iOS devices, Microsoft‘s (NASDAQ:MSFT[8]) Xbox, and select television and Blu-ray systems. At the start, the number of videos available for streaming will be understandably smaller than Netflix’s current catalog.
