5 Best Sectors to Watch This Week

This week, Household Products, Water Utilities, Infrastructure, Tobacco, and Beverages are the best sectors on the Portfolio Grader[1] database.

Household Products is excelling, with 100% of stocks in the sector (10 out of 10) rating a “buy”. Church & Dwight (NYSE:CHD[2]), Kimberly-Clark (NYSE:KMB[3]), and Spectrum Brands Holdings (NYSE:SPB[4]) are all currently earning A’s. Over the last 12 months, Spectrum Brands Holdings is the best performer in this sector, with a 76.3% increase. This is better than the S&P 500, which has seen a 21.6% increase over the same period.

The Water Utilities sector is thriving on Portfolio Grader this week, with 80% of its stocks (4 out of 5) currently rating a “buy”. With a grade of B, American States Water (NYSE:AWR[5]) and American Water Works (NYSE:AWK[6]) are buoying the sector. Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico is performing the best overall in the sector, with a 52.4% increase from 12 months ago.

Tobacco stands out with 75% of the sector’s stocks (6 out of 8) rating a “buy”. Altria (NYSE:MO[11]), Universal Corp. (NYSE:UVV[12]), and British American Tobacco (AMEX:BTI[13]) are paving the way for the sector with B grades. Showing the most overall growth in its sector in the last 12 months, Altria is the top stock, with a 12% increase.

Beverages is thriving this week with 73% of stocks in the sector (16 out of 22) currently rating a “buy”. With overall grades of A, Coca-Cola Femsa (NYSE:KOF[14]), Diageo (NYSE:DEO[15]), and Fomento Economico Mexicano (NYSE:FMX[16]) are buoying the sector. Over the last 12 months, Fomento Economico Mexicano is the best performer in this sector, with a 46.4% increase.
