Apple Mania Spurs New Baby-Naming Trends

1062532768 4cf22c5c57 300x225 Apple Mania Spurs New Baby Naming TrendsA new release from BabyCenter lists the top names given to babies in 2012, and while parents pulled from several sources — such as presidents and popular fiction — perhaps one of the most eye-opening was their attention to … corporate marketing.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) products did well this year, with the name “Apple” itself gaining 585 places in the rankings. Two other names making strong moves this year are “Mac” (for boys) and “Siri” (for girls).

Also making a strong showing is the popular book, Fifty Shades of Grey. The main character, Anastasia, saw her name — and “Ana” — climb the list, as did “Grey.” “Christian” — the lead male’s name — actually declined, however.

In a year that featured a presidential election, names derived from past presidents also did well. “Reagan,” “Kennedy,” “Carter” and “Lincoln” all saw significant jumps on the list.

Here are the top five boys names for 2012:

  1. Aiden
  2. Jackson
  3. Ethan
  4. Liam
  5. Mason

And the top 5 girls names:

  1. Sophia
  2. Emma
  3. Olivia
  4. Isabella
  5. Ava

You can see the rest of the list here.
