Beer 225x300 Budweiser Wants to Get Off This 'Flight'Not all product placement has value. Associated Press is reporting that Anheuser-Busch (NYSE:BUD) is asking that the producers for the new Denzel Washington movie Flight, remove its trademarks, or at least obscure them, from the film.

The film, released by Paramount Pictures, features Washington playing a lead character who suffers from alcoholism. In the movie he drinks excessively, including one scene where Washington is seen drinking from a Budweiser can while driving. Paramount is owned by Viacom (NASDAQ:VIAB).

Anheuser-Busch issued a statement saying the company wasn’t contacted by Paramount regarding use of its products or trademarks in the film. The statement added that Anheuser-Busch does not condone drinking and driving, and has a history of promoting responsible drinking.

The firm has requested that all logos and other trademarks be obscured in current digital prints and all subsquent releases in any form. However, there appears to be no requirement that Paramount abide by Anheuser-Busch’s wishes in the matter.

Stolichnaya Vodka, made by William Grant & Sons, is also featured in the film. A spokesman for William Grant that the firm wouldn’t have agreed to the placement.
