The auction, which was part of a larger collection of entertainment memorabilia, featured a bowler hat and cane identical to the ones the actor used in his movies. Other articles, such as an old photo and an autograph, were also sold, according to Aceshowbiz.com.
The auction was held by Bonham’s auction house in Los Angeles last Friday. The management of Bonham’s didn’t state directly that the hat and cane were from Chaplin’s estate, only that they came from a private collection and were directly connected to the silent film star.
Other items at the auction included original artwork from celebrities. A nude sketch by John Lennon, featuring himself and his wife, Yoko Ono, went for $25,000, while a painting by Frank Sinatra fetched more than $10,000.
Also featured were two original hand-drawn Peanuts comic strips by cartoonist Charles Schulz, which sold for more than $40,000 combined.
