The healthcare company, which is based in the Cincinnati, Ohio area, sent the notices out on Nov. 21 — the day before the Thanksgiving holiday, reports The Cincinnati Enquirer. Employees had been warned that failing to be vaccinated by Nov. 16 would result in their dismissal.
TriHeath runs several hospitals and doctor’s groups, as well as a hospice, in the region. The company requires the shots as a safety issue for its staff and the patients they treat, and provides them at no charge.
Employees with a religious or health-related reason for not getting vaccinated may be exempt from the program. If an exemption is obtained, employees are required to wear surgical masks when they are near patients.
The employees in this case can keep their jobs if they get a shot by Dec. 3.
