Consumer Reports: 10 Least Reliable Cars 2012

Cars are a major investment for most Americans. Having a flashy car that doesn’t start when you need to go somewhere isn’t money well spent. So when potential car-buyers go shopping, reliability is high on their list of desired vehicle qualities.

Based on its 2012 Annual Auto Survey, Consumer Reports has compiled its list of the 10 least reliable cars. The results are based on the testing organization’s own data, combined with reports from subscribers.

Ford (NYSE:F) vehicles dominate this year’s list, with a few entries from Tata Motors’ (NYSE:TTM) Jaguar and BMW’s Mini Cooper brands.

Here are the ten least reliable vehicles, according to Consumer Reports:

  1. Ford Explorer (V6, 4WD)
  2. Ford Focus (hatchback)
  3. Jaguar XF
  4. Mini Cooper Countryman
  5. Ford Explorer (V6, 2WD)
  6. Lincoln MKX
  7. Ram 2500 (turbodiesel)
  8. Jaguar XJ
  9. Lincoln MKT
  10. Ford Flex EcoBoost
