Fortune: 2012′s Businessperson of the Year

Jeff Bezos[1]Fortune’s 2012 Businessperson of the year list is out[2], and Amazon‘s (NASDAQ:AMZN[3]) Jeff Bezos is at the top of the heap.

The list is compiled by Fortune using various factors, including year-over-year performance, stock performance and the overall value of the firms. However, Bezos earned top honors for his ability to stay focused on his long-term strategy instead of short-term profitability.

Here are the top five businesspeople on Forbes‘ list:

  1. Jeff Bezos[4], Amazon
  2. Tim Cook[5], Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL[6]): The iPhone 5 sold more than 5 million units in a weekend.
  3. Brian Roberts and Steve Burke[7], Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA[8]) and NBCUniversal: The two worked together to make the TV network resurgent.
  4. John Donahoe[9], eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY[10]): Led the auction site to $1.8B in Q3 revenue, and fast-growing PayPal may surpass that soon.
  5. Oh-Hyun Kwon[11], Samsung (PINK:SSNLF[12]): Kwon has made the Korean firm the second-largest chipmaker in the world.
