General Motors NYSE:GM[1]General Motors (NYSE:GM[2]) said on Wednesday that it is recalling 12,000 Cadillac XTS sedans, as well as a number of Buick Verano, Chevy Cruze and Sonic models[3].

A defect in rear seat head restraints in Cadillac XTS models produced between October 2011 and August 2012 places them too low to satisfy federal safety requirements. The problem could raise the chances of passenger neck injuries in accidents, the Los Angeles Times noted.

The Verano, Cruze and Sonic models are being recalled over an electrical fault in airbag deployment systems.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by GM, which will foot the bill for repairs.

Shares of GM fell about 1% in Thursday mid-day trading.
