Hitting the Road for Thanksgiving Weekend

AAA says more than 43 million Americans will be driving

traffic Hitting the Road for Thanksgiving WeekendThe American Automobile Association says more than 40 million people will drive more than 50 miles for this Thanksgiving holiday.

AAA estimates that during the peak travel days of Nov. 21 and Nov. 25, 43.6 million people will be on the road, reports The Wall Street Journal. That’s 300,000 more than last year, and almost 6 million more than the 2008 Thanksgiving season, when travel dropped by 25%.

Most of those miles will be covered by car. More than 90% of holiday travelers will hit the highways this year, with fewer than 10% using air travel to get to their destinations.

There’s some relief this November from higher gas prices. With the price per gallon dropping an average of about 40 cents in the last month, Americans will be paying between $3.25 and $3.40 per gallon. That’s still very close to the all-time high of $3.32 set last year, though.
