[1]LEGO’s back in the toy spotlight — but that doesn’t necessarily equate to fun and games at toy stores.
According to a report by Deutsche Presse-Agentur, the 80-year-old company is having trouble keeping retailers supplied[2] with their entertaining building blocks.
The successful extension of the Denmark-based LEGO line to include Hollywood hits like Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean have boosted sales significantly. Not to mention, LEGO’s Friends line — a series using female characters and pastel blocks — is becoming increasingly popular despite early backlash[3].
Financial daily Borsen said daily sales “could top 20 billion kroner (3.4 billion dollars) for the year, up 20 per cent from 2011.”
