The recall of the PeaPod and PeaPod Plus Travel Beds was announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission today. While the CPSC is involved, KidCo launched the recall voluntarily.
The beds have been sold since 2005 and are intended for children from birth to age 3. Each consists of an inflatable mattress with a tent. The mattress is inserted into a zippered compartment in the bottom.
In December of last year, a five-month-old died in one of the beds after he was discovered with his face against the side of the tent. No cause of death was determined in the incident, but six other children have also been found underneath the mattress when it was not inserted properly.
