Comcast’s (NASDAQ:CMCSA[1]) NBC broadcast a star-studded concert from New York City’s Rockefeller Center on Friday to raise funds to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy[2], which devastated coastal areas of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut earlier this week.
The concert was broadcast on a number NBC networks, including CNBC, MSNBC, E! Entertainment, USA, Bravo and the Weather Channels. Other networks opted not to participate in the telethon, though Disney’s (NYSE:DIS[3]) ABC, News Corp.‘s (NASDAQ:NWSA[4]) Fox and CBS (NYSE:CBS[5]) announced their own donations to organizations assisting with recovery efforts, the Associated Press noted.
New Jersey natives Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen topped a long list of performers, with the Bon Jovi front-man performing “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” and Springsteen and the E Street Band ending the concert with “Land of Hopes and Dreams.”
The areas hit by Sandy continue to reel under the impact of power outages and fuel shortages[6].
