[1]The minimum winnings for this Wednesday’s Powerball[2] lottery? A record-setting and jaw-dropping $425 million.
And, yes, I said minimum. Lottery officials are expecting the actual winning amount to be significantly higher, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer[3]. Frequently, when lottery figures are very high, the number of players increases even faster than anticipated, adding to the winnings as well.
Recently, an August Powerball jackpot soare over the expected amount of $320 million, dwarfing it by $17 million. And last March, the MegaMillions jackpot jumped to $500 million and ended up being $640 million when last-minute buying was factored in.
In the case of this drawing, the value jumped more than $100 million with last Saturday’s drawing. Plus, officials say there’s usually a strong influx of players on the date of the drawing.
Tickets must be purchased by 8:59 p.m. on Wednesday to be eligible for the big prize.
