Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN[1]) is reportedly preparing to launch its own original comedy series[2], a single-camera show revolving around the lives of four interns at a Huffington Post-like website with a musical component.
The new show, titled Browsers, will be written by David Javerbaum and produced by 3 Arts Entertainment. The creators originally shopped the project to CBS (NYSE:CBS[3]) last year, but the network passed on it, Variety notes.
Creating original series programming — a step already taken by movie streaming rival Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX[4]) — has been a focus at Amazon for some time. Earlier this year, the Internet retail giant’s content development unit, Amazon Studios, announced that it was soliciting TV series project proposals[5].
While Amazon isn’t talking about the new project, it would likely be distributed on the company’s Amazon Instant Video, online streaming service.
Shares of Amazon rose fractionally in Tuesday morning trading.
