The state of California says one-time teen pop queen Britney Spears and her former husband Kevin Federline owe back taxes.
A lien filed by the California Franchise Tax Board demands $37,712.71 in taxes for the year 2004 from the former power couple, TMZ notes.
A spokesperson for Spears called the lien erroneous and indicated that the singer was working to correct it.
Spears was very busy in 2004. In January of that year, she married a long-time friend, only to divorce him 55 hours later. Nine months later, she married Federline, who she divorced in 2007. Between romantic adventures, she launched an album and conducted a concert tour.
Since then, Spears has continued to reap millions of dollars from her albums and currently appears as a judge on TV’s The X-Factor with Simon Cowell for a reported salary of $15 million a year.
