Here are your Apple rumors and AAPL news items for today:

Flat Screen Desire: The CEO of Time Warner (NYSE:TWX) wants Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) to launch its own branded TV, Mobile Magazine notes. Speaking at the Business Insider IGNITE Conference, Jeff Bewkes praised Apple’s history of developing innovative devices and said he hoped the iPad-maker would bring a TV set to market. Bewkes added that Apple has experience creating easily navigable user interfaces. Rumors of an Apple television set were rampant earlier this year, but cooled over the summer, as speculation emerged that Apple might be developing a new set top box instead. Apple has reportedly been negotiating content deals with various media companies and subscription TV service providers. Recently, Gene Munster, an analyst at Piper Jaffray (NYSE:PJC), predicted that Apple would debut a TV set next year.

Chip Shift: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (NYSE:TSM) will begin making A-series processors for Apple’s iOS devices starting next year, DigiTimes says. That will spell the end of Samsung’s role as exclusive provider of the processors inside iPhones and iPads. Apple has been looking to reduce its reliance on Samsung as the two companies have battled over patent infringement claims in courts around the world. However, Apple requires about 200 million chips per year to drive its devices, raising questions about how many chips TSMC can produce while maintaining relations with its existing clients. TSMC will need  200,000 12-inch silicon wafers — from which processors are created — available just to satisfy Apple’s demand.

Finally: Starting today, users can download the newest version of Apple’s iTunes music software, CNET notes. The released of iTunes 11 was originally slated for last month, but Apple delayed the debut in order to “get it right.” The latest version of iTunes borrows design elements from the company’s iOS software. Cover art for music albums is larger on the new iTunes and the stream of album covers that marked prior versions has been discarded. iTunes 11 also features more iCloud integration. The new software is available as a free download for computers running Apple software and Microsoft‘s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows.
