We all know it’s not safe for people to text while driving, but what about if the cars themselves send messages to each other?
The new system uses sensors — both in cars and on streets — to monitor roads and communicate with other cars in detecting potential accidents. The cars then can warn the driver of the hazard via prerecorded video and audio messages, prompting the driver to take action.
If the new system tests well, it might be street-tested in Japan as early as 2014, the AP reports. No timetable was given on U.S. street-testing.
