About 11,200 vehicles are affected by the recall, which is blamed on faulty sensor cables connected to seat belt pretensioners and airbags, the Automotive Business Review notes.

Toyota said that sensor cables in the cars’ seats could be exposed to trash or other objects — loose change, for instance — that might cause them to fail. That could compromise the response of the vehicles’ safety systems in the event of an accident.

The company indicated that it would provide covering to protect the sensors from potential damage.

So far, there have been no reported accidents or injuries resulting from the problem, Toyota noted.

This is the latest recall for the Japanese auto giant. Last month, it issued a massive worldwide recall for 7.4 million vehicles over malfunctioning power-window switches that could produce smoke.

Shares of Toyota dipped more than 1% in Thursday mid-day trading in New York.
