daily apple rumors AAPL[1]Here are your Apple rumors[2] and AAPL news items for today:

Chevy Voice: Apple‘s (NASDAQ:AAPL[3]) Siri voice assistant will be integrated into the 2013 models[4] of General Motors’ (NYSE:GM[5]) Chevrolet Spark and Chevrolet Sonic, the Daily News notes. Apple has developed a modified version of Siri, called Siri Eyes Free, that will be incorporated into the cars, allowing drivers to access smartphone functions without looking away from the road. After pushing a button located on the dashboard, drivers will be able to speak with Siri to make phone calls, play music, dictate messages and obtain weather, traffic and sports information. The new feature will work with the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5. Mercedes-Benz integrated Siri into its A-Class earlier this year.

Back On Top: Sales of the iPhone 5 have vaulted Apple past devices running Google‘s (NASDAQ:GOOG[6]) Android operating system to claim the lead in U.S. smartphone sales[7], eWeek notes. According to data compiled by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, iOS devices now comprise 48.1% of U.S. smartphone sales, while Android devices account for 46.7%. The iPhone 5 was launched in September, but suffered from supply shortages as Apple’s Asian manufacturing partners reported difficulties producing the super-slim phone. However, recent reports say that Apple is near to completely meeting demand for the iPhone 5. While Android smartphones have dominated the market in recent years, iOS device sales usually spike with new iPhone releases, including last year’s debut of the iPhone 4S. A Kantar analyst predicted that Apple would attain 49.3% of the U.S. smartphone market over the next two quarters.

Hog Purchase: Apple has acquired the European rights to the Lightning trademark[8] from Harley-Davidson (NYSE:HOG[9]), Patently Apple notes. Apple introduced its new 8-pin Lightning connector in September with the iPhone 5, replacing its long-running 30-pin connector, which had previously been standard on all of its mobile devices. The iconic motorcycle-maker had trademarked the Lightning name in 2005 for a line of cycles that were never introduced. According to filings with European regulators, Apple paid Harley-Davidson for the patent. No terms of the deal were disclosed, though Harley-Davidson retains partial use of the name.
