Wegmans, a privately held East Coast supermarket chain, is pulling some baking mixes off the shelves, as the chain says the mixes represent an allergy risk.
The company’s own internal allergen testing service found traces of soy — which is not listed on the nutritional label — in the mixes. Soy can cause a significant reaction in those allergic to it.
The products being recalled are:
- Wegmans Gluten Free Chocolate Cake Mix, boxes marked with UPC 77890-2833 and Best By Dates of 30Oct2013 to 11Apr2014
- Wegmans Food You Feel Good About Gluten Free Honey Cornbread Mix, boxes marked with UPC 77890-30343 and Best By Dates of 28Mar2014 to 16Apr2014
- Wegmans Food You Feel Good About All Purpose Baking Mix, boxes marked with UPC 77890-30341 and Best By Dates of 27Mar2014 to 18Dec2014
The mixes could have been sold in any of the chain’s stores in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland. Any customers with the products can return them to their point of purchase for a full refund.
