Last year Boxee TV sold 120,000 of its devices, which allow you to watch online video on your TV set. That’s compared to 1.4 million similar devices from Roku and Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) more than 5 million Apple TV boxes. But what has been a small start could turn into something big this holiday season. Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) has just signed a deal to exclusively sell Boxee TV.
The Boxee TV device also allows users to watch over-the-air TV channels, thanks to a built-in antenna. It also defaults to these standard channels on a first-screen menu. This sets it apart from competing devices and may be an important marketing difference for Boxee.
Here’s some facts about the device:
- Wal-Mart will sell only Boxee TVs
- Price: $99
- Boxee’s “No Limits DVR” allows users to record unlimited shows
- Features NetFlix (NASDAQ:NFLX), Pandora (NYSE:P) and other major streaming services
- Easy access to broadcast channels
