[1]A number of consumers who have received smartphones running Microsoft‘s (NASDAQ:MSFT[2]) new Windows 8 operating system say the devices randomly freeze and reboot multiple times every day[3].
Users of HTC’s 8X phone as well as Nokia‘s (NYSE:NOK[4]) Lumia 920 are reporting the problem on Windows-related web forums and say that Microsoft hasn’t yet provided a solution, The Register notes.
The problems are not being report on all Windows 8 smartphones, and issues with newly released software and equipment are not uncommon. Manufacturers usually issue software updates to correct user difficulties with new mobile products. Microsoft unveiled its Windows 8 operating system in October.
Microsoft is betting that Windows 8 will unify the computing experience across smartphones, personal computers and tablets and give it an advantage over mobile devices running Apple‘s (NASDAQ:AAPL[5]) iOS and Google‘s (NASDAQ:GOOG[6]) Android operating system.
Nokia has touted its line of Windows 8 smartphones, which include the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, as the struggling Finnish handset maker fights to reclaim lost market share[7].
