4 Treasures Found by Goodwill Shoppers in 2012

[1]Bargain-hunters who scour Goodwill stores in search of forgotten treasures have a number of recent stories to give them hope while they sift through other people’s cast-offs[2].

In fact, four times this year, Goodwill shoppers have come home with items that turned out to be worth hundreds of times what they paid for them, the Associated Press noted.

Of course, Goodwill devotees say that sifting through the junk in hopes of finding treasure is just part of the thrill that goes along with the experienced.

Here are four recent Goodwill treasure finds:

• Karen Mallett purchased a print for $12.34 at a Milwaukee, Wis., store that was later identified as a Alexander Calder lithograph valued at $9,000.
• A sketch by Salvatore Dali, purchased at a Tacoma, Wash., store, was sold in November for $21,000.
• Over the summer, a painting that sold for $9.99 at a N.C. store fetched $27.000.
• An old jug, sold this spring at a Buffalo, N.Y., store was later identified as an ancient Native American vessel. It has been returned to the tribe whose ancestors made it.
