The baby, whose name has not been revealed, was born on Oct. 19, The Sun reports. Under U.K. law parents have 42 days to register a birth or they face a £1,000 fine. It’s now been more than 50 days since Adele delivered the baby boy and the singer has been notified of her penalty.
The U.K. Government isn’t going to treat the lack of registration as a huge offense, however. A source told The Sun, “Most parents register their baby within a couple of weeks because it’s a nice thing to do — and because there’s a maximum fine of £1,000 if they don’t. There’s loads of reasons why parents are late and millions of couples don’t bother for ages.”
A formal fine will occur at the 90-day mark. At that point the registrar will become directly involved.
