Garmin Announces New CEO

Clifton Pemble to take over in 2013

GarminLogo Garmin Announces New CEOGarmin (NASDAQ:GRMN), manufacturer of GPS equipment for cars and boats, today named Clifton Pemble as its new CEO.

Pemble, Garmin’s president and chief operating officer, will take over the role in January, the Wall Street Journal reports. He will follow founder Min Kao in the role for the firm.

Pemble became president of Garmin in 2007 and has shepherded the firm through the period of weak sales brought about by the economic downturn and the rise of GPS-enabled smartphones. He first started with Garmin as one of the firm’s engineers in 1989.

“Cliff has been instrumental in establishing Garmin as a global leader in every market we serve. I firmly believe that he is equipped to lead us into the future with skills and knowledge that encompass the breadth and depth of the entire business,” Kao said in a statement.

Kao will continue with the firm as chairman.
