John McAfee has been detained in Guatemala after fleeing an investigation in Belize.
McAfee — who fled Belize three weeks ago — is a person of interest there in the death of his neighbor, Gregory Faull, according to the Associated Press. Faull was found dead of a gunshot wound in his home. McAfee has denied involvement in the killing, and police in Belize say he is not a prime suspect.
The technology millionaire was detained, along with his 20-year-old girlfriend, by the Guatemalan police and a member of Interpol at the Intercontinental Hotel in Guatemala City. The government of Guatemala says the two will be expelled for entering the country illegally. McAfee’s lawyer is seeking an injunction to prevent the expulsion.
McAfee has had previous troubles with the police in Belize. In the past, he was arrested for possession of illegal firearms and been suspected of manufacturing synthetic narcotics.
McAfee, who founded McAfee Anti-Virus, sold his stake in the firm in the 1990s. The popular software is now owned by chipmaker Intel (NASDAQ:INTC).
