NASA Gives $30M More for Space Taxi Certification

[1]With its fleet of space shuttles now resting in museums, NASA is desperate to develop vehicles to get astronauts and cargo into space[2].
The space agency is investing another $30 million to help Boeing (NYSE:BA[3]), Sierra Nevada Corp. and Space Exploration Technologies through the certification process for reusable space vehicles that can reach the International Space Station, Reuters noted.
Currently, NASA is relying on Russian rockets to ferry personnel and materials to the space station, and Russia is charging for the service.
NASA will provide another $9.99 million to Boeing, $10 million to Sierra Nevada and $9.59 million to Space Exploration Technologies, in addition to hundreds of millions already invested in the development of their prototype space vehicles.
The agency hopes to have a working space taxi, which can make regular trips to Earth orbit by 2017.
