Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) is giving its popular webmail system an overhaul.
The change was announced by CEO Marissa Mayer in a blog post Tuesday morning. Mayer says that the new webmail is designed to improve the speed at which users can access and navigate Yahoo! Mail.
Versions of the popular system are available for mobile devices like smartphones and tablet computers, while Yahoo! Mail for Windows 8 desktop computers also got a reworking. All of the systems now have similar navigation for users.
Mayer, who took over Yahoo this year after being at Google (NASDAQ:GOOG), has said that bringing an effective mobile strategy to the firm is one of her top priorities.
Yahoo’s email service is No. 1 in the U.S and number #3 worldwide, behind Google’s Gmail and Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Hotmail services, Reuters reports. However, its usage has declined significantly in the past year, including a 16% year-over-year slip in the U.S. last month. Worldwide, use is down 7%.
