The Daily, the iPad publication from News Corp (NASDAQ:NWS), will be ceasing publication on Dec. 15.
News Corp Chairman Rupert Murdoch said today that the audience for the app wasn’t developing quickly enough to justify the expense. Developed as a newspaper for Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad, The Daily was launched less than two years ago, according to NPR.
The release says that The Daily will cease “standalone” publication in December. Parts of the online paper, as well as some of the staff, will be transferred to The New York Post, another publication owned by News Corp.
The move is a part of the new split at News Corp. The giant media firm is being broken up, following a series of scandals surrounding the firm’s newspapers. One segment will feature newspapers, books and some Australian TV stations, and will maintain the News Corp name, while the the other will feature the more entertainment-oriented groups such as Fox Movie Studios and Fox News. The latter company will be called Fox Group.
