[1]The leader of rap’s Terror Squad has proven no match for the long arm of the Internal Revenue Service[2].
Joseph Cartegena, who performed under the rapper name Fat Joe, is facing up to two years in jail and $700,000 in fines after pleading guilty to tax evasion in a New Jersey federal court, MTV notes.
The government charged Fat Joe for failing to pay taxes on $3 million in income from 2007 and 2008.
Best known for his time as part of the hip-hop group called the Terror Squad, which he launched with his 1998 album, Don Cartegena, Fat Joe has collaborated with other prominent musicians including Kayne West and Chris Brown.
Fat Joe was released after posting $250,000 in bail. He’ll appear before the court for sentencing in early April. His attorneys say he’s working to resolve the tax problem.
