Postal Service: Holiday 2012 Shipping Deadlines

Cut-off dates for getting packages delivered are fast approaching


United States Postal ServiceThe U.S. Postal Service wants customers to know time is running out to get those Christmas presents in the mail.

A release, posted on the USPS website, updates people on the shipping deadlines so that they can feel confident their packages will arrive before Christmas. In this, its 237th year, the USPS expects to deliver 17.9 billion holiday packages and cards around the country. On one day alone — Dec. 17,  the date of the highest estimated mail volume — postal workers will handle 658 million piece of mail.

To make certain that packages arrive on time, the postal service wants users to be aware of the deadlines to help the service’s 170,000 vehicles get your gifts delivered.

Here’s a list of holiday shipping deadlines:

  • Dec. 3 – Priority Mail International
  • Dec. 11 – Express Mail International
  • Dec. 14 – Parcel Post
  • Dec. 20 – First-Class Mail
  • Dec. 21 – Priority Mail
  • Dec. 22 – Express Mail
