The National Football League has fined Washington Redskins star rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III for wearing the wrong shirt.
The league levied a $10,000 fine because Griffin wore a shirt with the Adidas (PINK:ADDYY) logo during his post-game press conference Dec. 9, The Christian Post reports. Griffin has an endorsement deal with Adidas. The NFL, however, has an endorsement deal with rival Nike (NYSE:NKE) and doesn’t allow players to appear at official functions in other companies’ apparel.
Officially, Griffin is being fined for wearing, “unofficial attire.”
Griffin was warned — but not fined — earlier in the season for covering up a Nike logo on his official team warm-up shirt.
In his first season, Griffin has become an immensely popular figure in the NFL. The rookie quarterback’s No. 10 jersey is the top-seller in the history of the league’s NFLShop.com.
