Getting the right gift for every last person on your holiday shopping list can be a hassle. Looking to boost sales and cater to harried holiday shoppers, Macy’s (NYSE:M) has announced that it will keep most of its 800 stores open for 48-hours on the weekend prior to Christmas.
The company’s final One Day Sale of this season, which will actually last two days, begins at 7 a.m. on Friday, December 21 and ends at 7.am. on Sunday, December 23, Macy’s said in a statement. Even after the sale ends on Sunday morning, most Macy’s stores will remain open until midnight.
But if even that’s not good enough 57 Macy’s stores will remain open until Christmas Eve.
This marks the first time the company has keep its stores open for that long for holiday sales. Previously, some stores had remained open for 24 hours on the final shopping day before Christmas. Over the years, it has added extended store hours each year to accommodate last minute shoppers.
Extending is shopping hours may give the iconic retailer a leg up on its competition, including Kohl’s (NYSE:KSS), J.C. Penney (NYSE:JPC), Target (NYSE:TGT) and Nordstroms (NYSE:JWN).
Shares of Macy’s rose fractionally in Thursday morning trading.
