[1]Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX[2]) is bringing out — just in time for the holidays — a new $450 gift card.
The new card will even feel important. Instead of being made of the usual plastic, it’s made of steel, reports USA Today[3]. Each one is also specially etched in an expensive process that costs $50.
Everything about the card, from the price tag to the heft and feel, is designed to build a sense of exclusivity for those who have one. With a limited run of 5,000 being produced, only a few people will get that feeling.
The cards come with $400 when purchased. And they won’t be available at Starbucks coffee shops. Beginning tomorrow, Starbucks reward club members can buy the cards at gilt.com[4], the ritzy website for expensive gifts. They’ll be available to the general public at the website on Friday.
The cards will also qualify buyers for Starbucks’ gold-level member status. That means holders will earn gifts and free drinks over time.
