[1]Chicago-based chain Jewel-Osco managed to purchase the last batch of Twinkies.
The Twinkies — as well as other Hostess snacks such as Ding Dongs, Zingers and Cupcakes — were selling at a furious pace around Chicagoland on Monday and Tuesday. A spokesman for the chain, Mike Siemenas, described the event as being akin to Black Friday.
“Once we received a call from Hostess asking if we would take the products, we told them we would take 100 percent of what they had. And based on the demand that the Chicago market had for Hostess products, we knew that that was the best place for them,” Siemenas told Fox News[2].
In all, the chain bought more than 20,000 boxes of Twinkies and 5,000 boxes of other Hostess products.
Hostess, the maker of Twinkies, is in the process of liquidating itself following several years of poor performance and labor issues. Several buyers have come forth hoping to purchase the firm’s product lines.
