Sick of all the spam in your email inbox? Well, a big chunk of that probably came from India.
According to IBM‘s (NYSE:IBM) “X-Force 2012 Mid-Year Trend and Risk Report,” as much as 16% of worldwide spam email originated in India over the past year. Not only does India originate the most spam email, it now has the dubious title of the world’s record spam producer, surpassing the U.S., which produced 15% of all spam in 2007, IDG News noted.
India has seen incredible growth in Internet use over the past year, with the number of Indian Internet users jumping 25%..
The IBM report also noted a rising threat from malicious viruses and malware hidden in emails and websites, as well as text messaging scams.
Last month, IBM announced that it would added $5 billion to its stock buyback program, making available a total of $11.7 billion are available for share buybacks.
