twitter logo1 300x110 Top Tweets, Retweets and Trends for 2012As the clock winds down, it’s time for the annual year-end lists and Twitter is no exception. The social media site recently sendt out its list of the the most retweeted messages for 2012.

Topping the list was the tweet “Four More Years” by President Barack Obama following his re-election, The Washington Post reports. The tweet was accompanied by a photo of the president hugging his wife and was retweeted more than 800,000 times.

Second on the list was a tweet from singer Justin Bieber. The singer tweeted “RIP Avalanna. I love you” — a message about a six-year-old fan with brain cancer following her death. Bieber’s message was retweeted more than 200,000 times.

The lists were compiled by Twitter using data from the firm’s huge user base.  The site “2012 on Twitter“ compiles information about which tweets were retweeted most, the biggest twitter conversations and the top trends for Twitter users.

Here are some of the most retweeted messages of 2012:

  • President Barack Obama – “Four More Years” (810,000 retweets)
  • Justin Bieber – “RIP Avalanna. I love you” (200,000 retweets)
  • TJ Lang – “F**k it NFL.. Fine me and use the money to pay the regular refs” (98,000 retweets)
  • Team GB – “29 gold, 17 silver, 19 bronze – We finished 3rd in medal table after most successful Olympics for 104 years #OurGreatestTeam RT your support” (67,000 retweets)
