Under the terms of their agreement, the cable provider will transmit live television channel streams to Roku devices owned by its subscribers, marking the first time Time Warner will stream content to a consumer streaming device, Bloomberg noted.

In addition to the channels, Time Warner subscribers with Roku devices will also get access to Google‘s (NASDAQ:GOOG) YouTube and Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX).

Time Warner’s Chief Operating Office, Rob Marcus, said the cable company was looking to give its subscribers a way to obtain cable service through devices of their own choice.

Roku will also add more than 70 new channels in a separate deal with Flingo, including Lifetime, A&E, the History Channel and TMZ. The exact terms of that partnership and what broadcast content that will be accessible from those channels were not disclosed, CNET noted.

In July, News Corp. (NASDAQ:NWSA) and its partially-owned subsidiary British Sky Broadcasting (PINK:BSYBY) invested $45 million in the privately-held Roku.

Shares of Time Warner Cable fell more than 1% in Tuesday midday trading.
