[1]Sbarro pizza is offering a new, lighter slice of pizza to its customers.
The new menu item debuted on Tuesday as the “Skinny Slice,” The Huffington Post reports[2]. It features portobello mushrooms, onions, two types of peppers and two types of cheese, all for 270 calories per slice. In contrast, a standard slice of Sbarro’s pizza weighs in at 460 calories.
The move is an attempt to join the trend of food companies offering lower-calorie items for the health conscious. Earlier, The Cheesecake Factory, winner of one of the Center for Science in the Public Interest’s ‘Xtreme Eating Awards’ for it’s high-calorie menu[3], launched a “Skinnylicious menu.”
