The habit of foodies posting images of their meals on Instagram or Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) has proliferated over the last two years, reports Mediabistro … and now it’s generating some blow-back.

People are so involved in the process that many have been seen bringing small tripods to restaurants and using flashes to get better pictures.

In response, some chefs are working to ban the habit. Chef David Chang of Momofuku Ko forbids the act in his restaurant completely, for example. Hosts at the restaurant are instructed to ask offenders to put their phones away.

Not all restaurants find the habit objectionable, however. Some have built virtual menus from the pics posted by diners, while chef David Bouley invites picture-takers into the kitchen to take their shots instead.
