A question long asked, “Why does McDonald’s (NYSE:MCD) only offer breakfast in the morning?” now has an answer.
Simply put, there’s just not enough grill space in an average McDonald’s kitchen to provide both its breakfast and daytime menus, Burger Business reports. The total number of items the chain sells exceeds the amount that can be handled at one time.
Still, Mickey D does like to experiment. After testing out “Breakfast After Midnight” at select restaurants in Ohio last year, it’s now trying out a more specific “McDonald’s After Midnight” in Rockford, Ill. The new program trims down both menus and provides a sort of greatest hits combination of menus for late-night diners.
Available on the test menu are McMuffins and Hotcakes as well as the chain’s popular burgers such as the Big Mac and Quarter Pounder. During the test, the new menu will be available from midnight to 4 a.m.
