[1]A baseball card purchased at a yard sale in Maine could be worth more than $100,000 at auction.
The picture of the 1865 Brooklyn Atlantics amateur baseball club was bought in a photo album along with some other items for less than $100 in the town of Baileyville, Maine, The Washington Post reports[2]. The picture shows nine players and the team manager posed for the shot.
The photo will be auctioned by Saco River Auction on Feb. 6. Auction house owner Troy Thibodeau says he’s aware of only one other copy of the photo, and it’s currently in the Library of Congress.
The Library of Congress calls the photo the first-ever baseball card. It came to have its copy when the photographer submitted it for copyright purposes. No version of the photo has ever gone through the auction process. Thibodeau expects the item to bring more than $100,000 in the auction.
