[1]Filming of a new reality show for Discovery Communications’ (NASDAQ:DISCA[2]) Discovery Channel turned deadly on Sunday[3].
Three people involved in the production of an unnamed reality show were killed when the helicopter they were flying in crashed near the Polsa Rosa Ranch, just north of Los Angeles, around 3:40 a.m., CBS News noted.
An official with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that the crash is being investigated and that the cause of the accident had not yet been determined.
Eyeworks USA, which created The Biggest Loser for Comcast‘s (NASDAQ:CMCSA[4]) NBC broadcast network, is producing the reality show for Discover Channel. It had obtained permits to use a helicopter during the show’s production.
The helicopter involved in the crash appeared to have come from Crossbow Helicopters, which had received FAA approval to uses its helicopters during filming.
Polsa Rosa Ranch has been the backdrop for a number of Hollywood movies including Windtalkers and the recent remake of Red Dawn.
Shares of Discover Communications fell about 1% in Monday morning trading.
